Amphibians

Amphibians

The rich hydrological net is very convenient for amphibians. In the Park 11 species of amphibians, bound to small or big extent with water environment, have been recorded. Their mating season first begins the Ranaidae family: Common Frog (Rana temporaria), Moor Frog (Rana arvalis) and also Common Toad (Bufo bufo). During this season Moor Frog males turn blue. This colour as well as frog’s noises attract females. In May you may hear a mating noise of Fire-bellied Toad (Bombina bombina) and green fogs like: Marsh Frog (Rana ridibunda), Edible Frog (Rana esculenta) and Pool Frog (Rana lessonae). Choirs of green frogs may be heared from a distance of few meters and their intensity gets sometimes incredibly powerful. A rare amphibian is Garlic Toad (Pelobates fuscus) which has the biggest tadpoles among the domestic amphibians. Other amphibians appearing in the Park are: European Green Toad (Bufo viridis), Natterjack Toad (Bufo calamita) and Great Crested Newt (Triturus cristatus) that is the only tailed amphibian in Park.
